Billy Butler & Infinity - Hung Up On You (Pride 1973)

Today I realized that the Betty Crutcher album I posted a while back had already been posted on doctor okeh's blog. its getting harder and harder to pick out albums that haven't ever gotten exposure on blogspot, but heres one that we can be sure about. I know because i scoured blogspot for a while looking for this one and never had any success. fortuntely i searched ebay for it at exactly the right time and was able to pick it up for a fair price. i didnt have any plans on sharing this one but i finally got to ripping it and thought why not... now that the links are private theres no reason to withhold any records from yall!

im going to be re-ripping these albums in teh future, once i get a better turntable (one should be sitting on my desk by this time next week). for the time being, heres a rip of this rare chicago soul album by billy butler!

Eric Mercury - Electric Black Man (Atco 1969)

Here's a nice record by the Canadian-born artist Eric Mercury. After recording this album, he put out a couple records on the Stax subsidiary, Enterprise. I've got both of those too, I'll post them eventually.

I have made the download links private cus too many people were downloading posts that were getting 0 comments. I've emailed everyone who had made comments til now an invitation (trabkuv, get at me, i couldnt find your email) to the google groups.

Anyone else who is looking to join this is how its going to work -- in exchange for access to the downloads you've got to 1) agree not to post these links anywhere else, and 2) be willing to share records from your collection that have never been blogged. its pretty simple; youll gain a lot of dope records in the future if you are willing to share what you have with the community.

David Porter - Victim Of The Joke? An Opera (Stax 1971)

dusty groove says

During the 60's, David Porter was one half of the highly successful Stax writing team of Hayes/Porter (Isaac Hayes was the other half.) This album is one of three that he recorded for Stax as a performer after his split with Ike, and it's probably the best of the bunch -- even if it is a strangely baroque mixture of dialogue, sound effects, and straight out soul singing. The album includes Porter's legendary "I'm Afraid The Masquerade Is Over", which has been sampled many times, plus the tracks ""Human", "Pretty Inside", "Storm In the Summertime", "When You Have To Sneak", and "If I Give It Up, I Want It Back"
I'm Afraid the Masquerade is Over has been sampled by gza's 'duel of the iron mics' and biggies 'who shot ya?'

Bill Cosby - Badfoot Brown & the Bunions Bradford Funeral Marching Band (Uni Records 1971)

dusty groove says:
A funky masterpiece from Bill Cosby -- hardly the sort of record you might expect from all of his years on mainstream TV! This set was cut back when Bill was a much hipper cat on the LA scene -- and it was the start of a brief all-instrumental run with his Badfoot Brown ensemble -- a group who's not named in the notes on the record, but who offer up some seriously funky grooves! Bill supposedly plays keyboards himself -- some really mad electric piano that's often repetitive, cyclical, and really hypnotic -- a tripped-out style that's more funk than jazz, and which is easily one of the best parts of the record. But the rhythms are great too -- equally hypnotic, and build up from bass, organ, guitar, and this whomping sort of drum part -- echoing strongly in the background and really bringing a spooky feel to the set. Side one includes the amazing "Martin's Funeral" -- sampled famously by Tribe Called Quest, and a 15 minute jam that's inspired by the funeral of Martin Luther King. Side two features "Hybish Shybish", an even longer track that's sort of an improvised jazz game -- and which features tripped-out instrumental trading that's simply amazing. The whole record is really mindblowing -- a messed-up jam session that's well worth the legend that's been built up around it over the years -- and we're hard-pressed to think of another album like it! And as a special bonus, the package features these really long notes written by Bill Cosby himself -- words that are as unusual as the music, and a side of him that's hardly been shown again

this album is nice, no doubt about it. a couple weeks ago i passed over a bill cosby music album by bill cosby and this band because i thought i had it. now, i know that 1. i dont have it, 2. apparently its rare as hell cus i cant find anything about it online and its not up on ebay. i cant even remember the title of the album but it WASNT silver throat, sings hooray, jam sessions with quincy jones, disco bill, or this one. the cover had a lot of blue on it, but thats all i remember. damn. anyway, bill cosby plays the electric piano on this. dont sleep.
